Gestión sostenible de la huella de carbono en la práctica odontológica: revisión sistemática
Resumen
La creciente preocupación por el impacto ambiental del sector salud ha evidenciado que la práctica clínica odontológica, por su alto consumo de energía, materiales desechables y procesos intensivos en recursos, constituye una fuente relevante de emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero. Este escenario exige replantear los modelos tradicionales de gestión hacia enfoques organizacionales sostenibles capaces de integrar criterios ambientales en la toma de decisiones clínicas y administrativas. El objetivo de esta revisión sistemática fue analizar la evidencia científica disponible sobre la gestión organizacional sostenible de la huella de carbono en la práctica odontológica. Se aplicaron las directrices PRISMA 2020 y se consultaron cinco bases de datos internacionales entre 2013 y 2025, utilizando descriptores Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) y Descriptores en Ciencias de la Salud (DeCS) y términos libres combinados con operadores booleanos. Tras aplicar criterios de elegibilidad, se incluyeron 41 artículos para la síntesis cualitativa. Los hallazgos muestran que la sostenibilidad organizacional depende de cuatro ejes fundamentales: liderazgo y gobernanza, planificación estratégica, optimización de procesos clínicos y adopción de métricas ambientales, los cuales permiten reducir emisiones, mejorar la eficiencia operativa y minimizar residuos. Se concluye que la gestión organizacional sostenible es esencial para avanzar hacia una odontología más responsable, eficiente y alineada con los desafíos contemporáneos del cambio climático.
