Abstract

The treatment of wounds in veterinary patients continues to be a major challenge. Innovations in medical technology have enabled the adoption of advanced techniques that enhance the wound healing process and reduce overall recovery time. This case report presents the application of vacuum-assisted closure negative pressure therapy to support a skin graft in a canine patient. This approach uses a porous open-cell foam placed on the wound bed, sealed with adhesive transparent film and connected to a programmable device that generates subatmospheric pressure ranging from 50 to 200 mmHg. The setup creates a sealed and anaerobic environment, facilitating wound management. In this case, a chronic non-healing wound was treated with a scrotal skin autograft from the same animal. The integration of the graft into the lesion bed was enhanced through negative pressure application, achieving full adherence within 10 hours. These findings support the effectiveness of application of vacuum-assisted closure therapy in veterinary skin graft procedures.
